Third time is the charm

E ai tche!! Well I am glad to say that this time I was able to see the main waterfall. I hiked to it with Keith this time. He is a very good high school friend, with whom I have hiked to most of the waterfalls with. This hike was probably the toughest in terms of how high you have to hike up to in order to see a waterfall. Even harder than Bells Canyon in Sandy. This waterfall had alot of water flowing in it and it was great to see something about 40 feet after a rough hike and some off hiking to get to it.

Davis Creek Waterfalls Part#1

Well I actually hiked to this one on tuesday June 14, 2011 and it was my friend Eldon and I's second attempt to find the main waterfall on the Davis Creek Trail. It was a tough one for the most part because the trail is hard to find and there are other man-made ones that people can get lost on. Also, it mostly is uphill and so on and so forth. These waterfalls we did find are two of the four or five. Great ones at that and we shall attempt it again I believe the first saturday of July.

Month of May Waterfalls

Well the month of May came by and passed rather quickly. I had intentions to check out numerous waterfalls, however, things do come up and my intentions are not always set in stone. I was grateful to see a few new ones on the same trip and that would be in Vernal and the other in Big Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake. The month of June promises to be a good month. I plan on seeing 7 new waterfalls in Pleiades Canyon near Moab and two small but nice waterfalls that are actual waterfall size. Also, I plan on hiking to some new ones near Farmington and Centerville next week!

Burnt Springs Waterfall

This long distance waterfall is certainly a runoff from the snowmelt and is located just .25 of a mile from the turn to Ely Creek Falls. Just continue down the trail and be sure to look to the left or you will miss it. Not impressive enough to bushwhack your way to it and I apologize for the lack of detail and it is due to the lack of a good stable spot for the tripod to rest. Nonetheless, here it is!

Ely Creek Falls and Cascade

I hiked to several new waterfalls and I am very glad I traveled this far to get to them. These are located outside of Vernal, Utah in the canyon to the northeast of the city. Including driving to the trailead from Magna and hiking to them I would say it took 4 and a half hours. Wow! I hiked up there with my good high school friend Eldon on the nice sunny day with scattered cloud cover and saw few if any on the trailhead. The trailhead is located at the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery.

Hidden Falls

This is Hidden Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon. I have been here numerous times. However, I am perfecting the way I take pictures of waterfalls. Alas, this one is flowing high due to the snow pack melting. This one is an easy one to go to. I like this one alot.

Unknown Big Cottonwood Canyon Waterfall

This is an unknown waterfall I found in Big Cottonwood Canyon. I was driving up the canyon and it was on the right hand side of the road within 3 miles of the canyon before Hidden Falls. This one is about 15-20 feet and it is a pretty one. The water flow was constant but not as high as the other ones I have encountered.

No new April waterfalls but I got the silky smooth look down!!

April has been a month of cold, wet, and snowy weather in Utah. No joke. Because of that and the fact that I want my waterfall pictures to be silky smooth, I have been unable to see new ones. However, I got that look down that I want my waterfalls to look like and I am seeing new ones for sure in the coming months and especially in June. Here it is. Enjoy!

Planned waterfall hike

I am officially planning or have planned a hike to a waterfall outside of Vernal, Utah this Saturday April 23rd. I will try and have someone at least one other person go with me. It is the Ely Creek Waterfall and also another one close by from a long distance I think called Burnt Springs Waterfall. I will try and get a closer look.

Future waterfalls

The weather here in Utah has been winter-like and cold and cool for the most part. Hampering my efforts to hike to one or two when it would be good enough weather. I am planning on getting dates set in stone so I can go see some more of waterfalls here in Utah. For example, I am trying to see if the weather will be good enough so that I can hike to Bells Canyon Waterfall again and a new one I haven't seen just past it. I am planning on seeing Upper and Lower Mesa Falls in Idaho fyi. My friend and I have put in a reservation in the lottery at Zions for the Subway. There are many unique waterfalls, cascades there that I will be able to see and Keyhole Falls is in there too. I am almost sure enough of a date in mid may or early June to rappel down seven waterfalls in Pleiades Canyon outside of Moab. Seven!!! I will get the names of them once I go in it. Also.. some waterfalls I want to see are in the Uintas, Southern Utah such as Double Falls and Barrier Falls, Menu Falls in Zion, and in Vernal. Wish me luck!!!!

Faux Falls-Moab

This is Faux Falls or could be known as Kens Lake Waterfall since it is located near Kens Lake roughly 7 miles outside of Moab, Utah. There is some debate as to whether this is a real waterfall or not. The water is diverted to create this and Kens Lake was created the same way. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful waterfall located in a true desert oasis with the beautiful scenery of the Moab area. The trailhead is located in the campround of Kens Lake and it is next to a dumpster if that helps. There is information at the trailhead itself. It is a .07 miles to the waterfall even though it looks like it is longer.

More waterfalls planned and Rainbow Falls

It has been a while since my last post and I have been busy. However, the times I haven't been busy I cannot make up any excuses. I will continue to do better. I got a new camera last month. A canon 60D that will make my pictures a hell of a lot better. I am stoked for it. I did test it out (and need more practice obviously) on a waterfall in Ogden Canyon called Rainbow Falls I believe. I am planning on more waterfalls this year. More are to come as the year goes on, but here are the list of ones I am more than likely to discover...

1.) Professor's Creek Waterfall

2.) 7 Pleiades Canyon Waterfalls

3.) Double Falls

4.) Barrier Falls

Now I am going to do more research and hike to more. I will more than likely surpass the 100 mark of waterfalls in Utah. I am excited to do that. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
